Tsiakkas The most romantic story in wine matters is being written at the village of Pelendri where the Tsiakkas winery is situated; romantic, because how else could one describe Costas Tsiakkas who, in full awareness and at the age of 43, gave up a successful career in banking as a branch manager with an enviable income and bright prospects, to devote himself wholeheartedly to his winery? How else could one describe a young family man with four minors who abandons not only a very decent job but also his home in Lemesos, to set up a new home, for all his family, in a distant little village in the poor region of Pitsilia, away from schools and other educational facilities, at the same time taking his children away from their friends? I like people like Costas Tsiakkas because he is a negator, he is a real sport, who put his love for wine above the social conventions of modern times, according to which businessmen and civil servants are considered successful people whereas those who live in the country are thought of as marginalized peasants. In brief, Costas Tsiakkas, a former banker, has been gnawed and corroded by the "woodworm" that bears the name of "wine"!
The winery, which is managed by Costas and his wife Marina, is one of the loveliest in Cyprus, for it is situated in a wooded area in mountainous Pitsilia. The building is faced with solid local stone impregnated with the noble dreams of two bread-winners, with priority given to the vision of setting up a tall stone tower which will constitute the permanent trademark of the winery.
